Mana regeneration

Mana generation in 3.1

Mana generation is a very important isue for priests. Here some numbers helping you decide to choose the right stats for your items or gems.

With the 3.1 patch the mana generation has been changed again, and spirit affects it now 40% less then before.

The new formula for calculating the mana regeneration is:
\[ 0.0167 * spirit * \sqrt{intellect} \]

As you can see the mana regenation is a product of Spirit and the square root of intellect which means both, intellect and spirit is needed to push your mana regeneration.

Since the spirit nerf in 3.1 spirit is getting a bit less important, and its getting more important to stack some intellect, as it not only increases your mana pool and your regeneration, but will push your critical chance too.

Some calculation for 3.1 will come soon.

maximizing mana generation

Given the above formula for mana regeneration:

regen = 0.0167 * spirit * sqrt(intellect)

To maximize regeneration, spirit is more valuable than intellect until you have twice as much spirit as intellect. If you only have 1.5 times the spirit as intellect then 1 spirit is worth 1.3 intellect, 10 spirit is worth 13 intellect, etc. If your spirit and intellect are equal, then 1 spirit is worth 2 intellect.
